Runes in Elden Ring
Runes are Elden Ring’s primary currency, used to Level Up, Enhance Weapons and Gear, buy items, trade with Merchants and even power Great Runes that grant powerful yet limited buffs.
Players in Roundtable Hold can seek and restore Great elden ring runes from powerful enemies such as Godrick the Grafted to power effects that will last until one or both players dies. Once powered, these effects will remain active until you pass away.
Level Up
As FromSoftware’s game is so skill-dependent, your character may find themselves rapidly leveling up during their adventures. Luckily, Elden Ring makes leveling up an easy process that doesn’t require many Runes at all!
To level up, visit three Sites of Grace located throughout the open world (dungeon-related SITES of GRACE do not count towards this goal). After visiting your third SITES of GRACE, Melina will approach you offering to convert any runes you’ve collected into character power for you.
To accelerate the process further, it’s advisable to acquire early on a Gold Scarab Talisman which increases rune rewards by 20%. Later in game players may wish to farm for Gold-Pickled Fowl Feet which increases rune rewards an additional 30%; both consumables provide instantaneous Rune rewards when consumed from inventory.
Upgrade/Enhance Weapons & Gear
Elden Ring allows players to use runes for weapon and gear upgrades. Each upgrade costs a certain number of runes; exactly how much depends on both your current level in the game and which weapon/gear you are upgrading. You may also gain the Golden Scarab Talisman early on which increases how many runes are received from defeating enemies as well as items like Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot.
Assuming you defeat most of Elden Ring’s main bosses, they will offer up unique Key Items called Great Runes as rewards. While these Unique Key Items provide substantial boosts to your Tarnished character, sometimes their usage or activation may not be immediately obvious.
In most instances, to activate a Great elden ring runes you will need to take it to a Site of Grace and interact with one of its statues within its tower. These locations may be associated with Mohg, Godrick or Queen Marika but can also be found outside these regions.
Buying/Selling Items
Elden ring runes can be acquired in various ways, but most players find them most easily when defeating bosses in-game. As rewards from such battles come particulate shards and Great Rune Arcs that power up Godric’s Tower when visited; both types provide small pieces.
These Great elden ring runes don’t grant any actual blessings when activated; rather, they’re used mainly to gain entry to the final section of the main dungeon or buff creature damage invasion other players’ worlds. A non-unique consumable Talisman called Sacrificial Twig can prevent all but the first of these Runes from being lost upon death but requires one slot for operation and only lasts a limited amount of time before needing replacing with new Runes.
Caves and dungeons can also serve as efficient rune farms, with their abundance of enemies dropping plenty of them. Furthermore, items like the Golden Scarab Talisman and Gold-Picked Fowl Foot can significantly boost Rune rewards when killed enemies.
Defeating Bosses
Elden Ring offers many reasons for spending Runes: the primary one being upgrading weapons and gear. Elden Ring’s upgrade system is especially important, enabling players to increase their strength in battle with some of its toughest enemies and remain competitive during combat situations.
As many of the game’s biggest and most thrilling bosses require an impressive amount of elden ring runes to defeat, players may wish to speed up this process by farming more runes faster. There are ways players can speed up this process through efficient rune farming techniques which can save them both time and effort in battle!

How do I get Runes?
